Galerie Philia
Untethered by reality while still being grounded in design.
Galerie Philia, renowned for its commitment to showcasing innovative and boundary-pushing art, provided me with an opportunity to immerse myself in their world of great artists and their pieces.
With Unreal Engine 5, I made a scenic timelapse with Philia's aesthetics and sensitivities taken into account, untethered by reality while still being grounded in their design. Based on Andres Monier's white onyx console design, I built and composed a space around the piece, showcasing it, while still having a sense of belonging, with white onyx pieces dividing and adding harmony to the space.
Galerie Philia are not a stranger to virtual environments, through Enrico Capanni's work, Galerie Philia has mastered their artistic expression in ethereal spaces and landscapes.
Parting from Enrico's own "The Strange Quarries II", I took the groundwork he made and built from there. The idea of taking a natural environment and making it your own, while still respecting nature itself, is what's really captivating from "The Strange Quarries II". This time looking on a nook on a cliffside built for Andres Monier's Onyx console.
"Meditations I" gives the viewer the sense that they discovered someone's special place, as if not long ago someone stumbled upon this balcony on a cliffside and made it their own, a place where they read and meditate. A cliffside looking out to sea.
Making this space in Unreal Engine 5 really elevated this space into something special. Thanks to Quixel's vast library of high-quality 3D scans and Unreal Engine 5's nanite capabilities. The only limit is the artist itself.
To take Galerie Philia's work to Unreal Engine could really open up the world of contemporary art and virtual production in all kinds of media. From VR and AR to volumes and projections for any kind of installation.
One of the most important aspects of rendering this piece is making the models and textures the most exact as possible. To capture Onyx's subtle translucency and how the light would illuminate through the slab while casting shadows over it.
Thanks to Galerie Philia for the opportunity, it's exciting to see Digital Art pushing the boundaries and having more applications each day.
